I'm looking for a well made lightweight bass wheel. What have you got?

This Trekker Lightweight Bass Wheel has a foam-compound tyre that offers the perfect amount of cushioning for your instrument.

That sounds good. Just how light is the Trekker Lightweight Bass Wheel?

On average the unit weighs in at only 200gms.

What is the total length of the Trekker Lightweight Bass Wheel?

On average the total length of the unit is only 234mm.

Wow - those stats are absolutely perfect for the travelling bassist.

Yes indeed. When not in use the Trekker Lightweight Bass Wheel can easily be slotted into an accessory pocket of a cover or in to one's travel bag.

What sort of players are buying the Trekker Lightweight Bass Wheel?

The Trekker Lightweight Bass Wheel can be used by amateurs, students and professional players alike.

Has the Trekker Lightweight Bass wheel been well received so far?

Yes indeed. The unit is successfully being used by players as far afield as England, Germany, Denmark, America, Japan, Australia and even Oman.

What is the bracket made from?

It's made from 3.3mm gauge aluminium.

So it's mighty strong yet mighty light?

Yes - that's right.

What is the actual wheel made from?

The wheel centre is made from a moulded plastic - and as mentioned previously the tyre is made from a resilient type of foam sealed in a tough plastic outer.

Are you telling me that in addition to being extremely light and compact there are no pneumatic valves to go wrong or hollow tyres to puncture?

Yes - that is correct.

The wheel itself looks quite small. Is it up to the job?

Although the Trekker Lightweight Bass Wheel has a diameter of only 123mm - it will do exactly the same job as a big-wheel with the advantage of superior instrument manageability and manoeuvrability. Simply put - this means that the instrument isn't elevated too much. As a consequence it's much, much easier to handle. When it comes to carrying the wheel as luggage the benefits of the smaller wheel are obvious.

I've noticed that there are two flats milled on to the surface of the pin. What are these for?

The function of the flats on the pin are to ensure that whenever the retaining screw of the endpin unit is tightened the wheel doesn't slip out from the endpin hole or twist around out of line with the direction of travel.

So a well designed bass wheel should have at least one flat milled onto its surface. Can you tell me why the Trekker Lightweight Bass Wheel features two flats?

It means that Trekker Lightweight Bass Wheel is completely versatile in the way that you use the wheel. The first flat will allow you to push your instrument straight in front of you. Rotate the wheel anticlockwise through 90% to the second flat and you'll be able - should you prefer - to push your instrument along sideways.

What sort of surfaces is the Trekker Lightweight Bass Wheel designed for?

The Trekker Lightweight Bass Wheel is intended for use on smooth surfaces and pavements such as those found at college or university campuses, hotel lobbies, station concourses and of course airport lounges. If you are looking for a wheel to use along cobbled streets, for going up and down pavements or for trundling over ploughed fields we strongly suggest that you purchase a different make of wheel or consider purchasing a buggy or a trolley.

The diameter of my pin is spot on 10mm. Will the Trekker Lightweight Bass Wheel fit straight in to my endpin hole without any problems or adjustments?

If you use a pin with a diameter of 10mm (generally regarded as the industry-standard) then the Trekker Lightweight Bass Wheel will definitely fit.

How can you be so sure it will fit?

The actual diameter of the Trekker Lightweight Bass Wheel pin or shank has been made just a tad (slang for a little) under the 10mm.

Can you tell me what the average diameter is?

Yes - the average diameter is 9.2mm.

I can see that the Trekker Lightweight Bass Wheel has been designed with a lot of careful thought. Was it made by a bass player by any chance?

Good guess, good guess. Yes - made by a professional bass player for other bass players.

Before I invest in a bass wheel what is the best general advice that you can offer?

Firstly always make sure that you can take the existing pin right out from the unit and secondly always check the diameter of the existing pin.

I've heard that a bass wheel can cause damage to my instrument. Do you have any advice about using one?

Please, please, please use some common sense on which surfaces you use your wheel.

Time for a summary:

At last - a well made wheel that doesn't require a separate suitcase to store it in while on tour or following a "trek" across town. This Trekker Lightweight Bass Wheel is definitely very cool, it's neat - and over the smoother type of surface it's the business.
