Double Bass Accessories - strings - carry cases - bow cases and quivers from the doublebass specialists The Contrabass Shoppe for doublebasses (double basses) musical instruments

String Winding keyString Winding Key

Have you ever wished you could change a set of strings quickly?

Lets face it - we all know just how long, tiresome and tedious the job of changing a set of strings is. Well not any more - for this incredibly useful little item has the ability to reduce the half-hour plus ordeal by as much as 50%.

How does the winding key work?

Once the head of the winder has been placed over the end of the worm-head you simply wind or unwind the string by - well - err - winding in one direction or the other. Because the head and handle of the string winder rotate freely on an axel - ones wrist can be held steady and in a natural, straight-in-line-with-arm position. It's comfortable, effortless and as simple as that.

Still not convinced?

Here's a reminder of how you wind a string onto a barrel without a winding key. How does it go? Place fingers on to worm-head, twist wrist as far as it goes, take fingers-off, straighten wrist and then repeat for half an hour.

Is there anything that I should consider?

The recess in the winder head is shaped rather like a diamond - fatter in the middle - tapering to the ends. It has been designed to accommodate the majority of worm-heads - however - please consider the length and width stats of the recess especially if you have a French instrument that is fitted with the origional Mirecourt machines or those worm-heads made from ivory, bone or bakelite.

What's the String Winder made from?

In a word - an extremely hard type of moulded plastic.

Conclusion:

An invaluable time and effort saving device.

Stats:
Length of recess in head: 45mm
Width of recess in middle of head: 12mm
Width of recess at each end of head: 3mm
