Flight Case Cover-free Pack

Note - this is an optional upgrade to the standard flight case

Do I need a Flight Case Cover-free Pack?

Both the Hybrid Flight Case and the Carbon Flight Case are fitted with a unique and highly secure strapping system that is designed to go over the outside of your bass cover. The "over-cover" system has been fitted as standard on both cases simply because the majority of players prefer to travel with a cover. The cover being useful to carry the instrument about once at your destination and because it provides protection from the extreme cold while it is in the hold of the aircraft during flight. Having said that - some players prefer to or are obliged to keep weight to an absolute minimum and travel without a cover. If you are one of these players you will need to purchase the Flight Case Cover-free Pack.

How much extra weight does a cover add to my overall baggage allowance?

A medium weight cover will average about 4.5kg. A lightweight cover will average about 3.38kg.

Hmm. It could be useful to have the cover free pack. Can I still use a cover if I want to?

Yes indeed. The body straps with the Flight Case Cover-free Pack can quickly and easily be adjusted to secure your instrument with or without a cover on.

I see that the securing straps when used cover-free pass underneath the fingerboard, strings and tailpiece. Why is that?

Securing the body of your instrument is by far the safest and most secure method of cover-free touring.

To be able to secure my instrument in both "Cover-free" and "Over-cover" situations - must require straps that are highly adjustable for length. Is that correct?

Yes - each of the five body straps is fitted with two adjuster buckles instead of one.

What else does the Flight Case Cover-free Pack consist of?

To protect the precious layers of varnish on your instrument from the quick-release plastic toggle-clips the Cover-free Pack comes with five soft fabric sleeve "varnish protectors" that simply slip over the five securing straps. Similarly the strings, fingerboard and neck are protected from the buckle of the neck belt by means of a double thickness cloth "neck protector".

How is the "neck protector" secured around the neck of my instrument?

The Neck protector has Velcro strips affixed to it. It can be secured around the neck of your instrument in a matter of seconds.

What material are the "varnish protectors" and "neck protector" made from?

The material for the varnish protectors can vary from a soft fabric to corduroy and depends on what is available from the fabric supplier. The neck protector is made from the same luxurious "ripple chenille" fabric as the lining.

OK - just remind me what the Flight Case Cover-free Pack consist of.

The Flight Case Cover-free pack consists of:
a) Two length-adjustment buckles per body strap
b) Five soft fabric "varnish protectors"
c) One soft fabric "neck protector"

Can I have a final summary please?

For the player who wants to fly or travel "cover-free" The Flight Case Cover-free Pack is obligatory. For the player who normally travels with a cover - the weight advantages of cover-free travel could prove to be very useful in certain circumstances.
