| What is this bow branded? It is branded "La Pierre a Paris" Is there a French bow maker by this name? To the best of our knowledge there isn’t a maker by this name. I thought there was a maker called Marcel Lapierre? Yes - we do know of a maker by the name of Marcel Lapierre who lived and worked in Mirecourt during the mid-twentieth century, but it is extremely doubtful that this bow was made by him because his surname is spelt as only one word - "Lapierre" - rather than as "La Pierre". Who do you think made this bow? This is without question a French bow. The name brand is more than likely to be a "pretende" name - possibly put on at a later date in order to make selling easier or indeed to secure a higher price. A reasonable attribution would be - made around 1930 in the workshops of Bazin. How would you describe the overall condition of the bow? Overall - good. Can you give me a brief description of the bow? This is a round nickel silver bow of a medium-brown colour. The head is extremely well proportioned and the chamfers flow nicely into the head. The stick is made from good "long-grain" pernambuco. At the frog end - the stick is characterised by a dark line that runs partway across the top facets of the handle. An independent inspection report confirms that this is a natural coloration in the wood. The frog has mother-of-pearl eyes without rings. The button is in one piece.
