This bow stick is by and branded A. Richaume a Paris.
The stick is of premier class - long-grain pernambuco and bears
testament to the high esteem placed upon Richaume by bow experts
and connoisseurs alike.
Etienne Vatelot 'Les Archets Francais' (Second edition
published by Sernor - M. Dufour) states in Volume 2 page 808 "One of the
most remarkable bow makers of his generation".
Christopher Brown 'Discovering bows for the Double
Bass' 1994 Beaux Arts Editions page 173 writes "One of the great French bow makers
of the 20th century".
Richaume was apprenticed with Emille Ouchard Pere
and later his uncle Victor Fetique. As a consequence of working
with these master bow makers - Richaume's style of making is both
bold yet highly artistic.
Yes. The frog - although not the original - is an
excellent replacement by the great English bow maker Arthur Bultitude
(1908-1990) whose Tudor Rose emblem - in silver - it bears.
It is likely that the whole frog became damaged
beyond repair and that it became necessary to replace it in its
entirety. In would appear that Bultitude also fitted a silver face
to the bow at the same time.
Yes - even though the replacement frog and face
have been made and fitted by another master bow maker - we are
offering this bow at approximately half the value of one made in
its entirety by Richaume.
Yes for sure. This really is a fantastic opportunity
to acquire a rare and much sought after bow stick with quality
frog at a very attractive price.
Yes. The violinist David Oistrakh used a bow by
Richaume throughout his life.
Richaume was born in Mirecourt on 08/02/1905 and
died in Paris on 31/03/1966.
Really - this is a bow that feels and plays well
beyond your highest expectations. In this example - Richaume's
work is truly in the same class as that of Sartory.
